On January 3, 2025, a fire broke out in an 8-story building in Seongnam City, South Korea. The fire originated from the restaurant kitchen. It was the peak time for getting off work. Many people were trapped and the scene was filled with thick smoke. Fortunately, only about 12 people were slightly injured in this accident. But at the same time, we remind everyone to pay more attention to fire prevention.
In a fire, correct escape methods and protective equipment are crucial. Today, I will introduce several “secret weapons” for fire escape.
Respiratory protection
Filter-type fire-fighting self-rescue respirator: through the chemical agents and adsorption materials in the filter canister, toxic gases in the smoke are filtered, such as activated carbon adsorbing carbon monoxide, and chemical agents reacting with hydrogen cyanide to convert harmful substances. Fireproof clothing: Made of high-temperature resistant and flame-retardant aramid fibers and other materials to block flames and heat radiation, reducing the damage of fire to the body. Whether it is firefighters extinguishing fires and rescuing, or trapped people escaping, fireproof clothing can effectively reduce the risk of burns around flames or in high-temperature environments.
Heat-insulating gloves: Made of thermal insulation materials such as ceramic fibers and glass fibers, they can block heat transfer and prevent hand burns. When trapped people escape, they come into contact with high-temperature door handles, railings, etc., and heat-insulating gloves can protect their hands.
Escape assistance
Emergency escape rope: Made of high-strength fiber material with good tensile strength. Fixed in a firm position such as a window or balcony, using length and friction to help trapped people descend safely from a height. When the stairs are blocked, trapped people on high floors can use this to escape.
Multifunctional strong light flashlight: high-brightness LED light source, waterproof and drop-proof shell. Trapped people can use it to illuminate the environment in the dark and find escape routes. Its strong light can also be used as a distress signal.
